This weekend I was shooting outside and needed to shoot full power on the Quadra. I also need more pops than what I could get out of the battery.

So I brought along my Vagabond ll and the Quadra charger. Plugged it all in and I was good to go.

Which got me thinking…

Why bring along the Vagabond and the Quadra charger? Surely the charger puts out 12V, and the inverter on the Vagabond puts out 120V.

There will definitely be a loss of energy going from battery to inverter to charger to battery. So lets cut out a few middle men.

Back at the workshop I opened the Quadra battery and lo and behold there is a 12V SLA battery. No big surprise here but only 3.6AH? Not much juice. But what was a pleasant surprise is that there is no added circuitry between the charger port and the battery, except for the fuse.

So this leads me to believe that you can just add an external battery to the charger port and keep on shooting.

Also the batteries dimensions are 2.25″X5.25″X2.5″ so one could probably build a Li battery pack to fit in there. Of course you would not be able to use the charger as its for the SLA.

Stay tuned…
